Thanks Sheila, this little Essex Skipper was special to see. Its wings are at two different angles, like modern fighter jets ones are.

In spite of the dry & warm spring I've seen few butterflies so far this year! :( I've yet to see a Peacock or a Tortoiseshell butterfly this year. Even the Cabbage Whites are scarce! :( I've seen a couple of small black ones but I don't know what they are. :(

Hi Balcony, We have five lavender bushes full of flowers and the bees and butterflies are loving them. It's only the past couple of weeks that the butterflies are emerging.

A day or two ago I was watering the pots in my son's garden while he is away & I saw a butterfly that reminded me of yours! In fact I saw a couple even before reaching his house though in his street. I took a photos but as it wouldn't stay still the photo came out bad & I deleted it. He has a Buddleia in his garden, (not in flower at the moment), & one stopped there which gave me the chance to get up close & take a decent photo.

That's good Balcony. Butterflies are not the easiest of insects to take photos of.

When we planted two lavenders close to our seating area, we had no idea that they’d be so popular with butterflies as well as bees. They’re so entertaining to watch - a treat 🙂

That's good Sheila. I take a few cuttings about now from the Lavenders. We've seen a lot of Ladybirds on the Cosmos this last week.

I've yet to see practically any other butterfly than Cabbage Whites & even they are scarce. :(

On the other hand I've seen more bees this year than in many previous years since at least 5 years ago.

We've seen more bees this year as well Balcony. Perhaps it's got something to do with the weather.
