Tie-dye Naked Ladies

The Tie-dye Naked Ladies are in full bloom right now. The bulbs have really multiplied since last year. I've never seen a flower with this color before. Its neon colors actually glow.

The flowers are much nicer than the name. lol

They got the name "Naked Lady" because in the spring the strappy foliage comes up and then fades away leaving nothing at all. Then in August, seemingly out of nowhere, the flowers suddenly appear, looking a bit "naked" because there's no foliage, just the tall flowerstalk and flower. They're also known as Surprise Lily and Resurection Lily.

Thanks for the explanation Diohio. I still don't like those names though. There should be a nicer name for such a beautiful flower.
All the best, Hywel

I just learned that they're also called Magic Lily and Hurricane Lily, and sometimes Spider Lily.

Lisa, I got them in 2002 from Plant Delights. See if the link works here

Right now they're sold out but you could probably put your name on the list for next year. Their picture doesn't do them justice at all. They're $15.00 there.

Bulbmeister has them too........for $14.95, see if this link works...

Oh Thanks Flcrazy ! It's been a crazy buzy summer and I havn't had much time for the computer.
I love Plant Delights too ! I hope you get these.........you won't be sorry ! Be sure they get plenty of sun though.........I had mine in part shade at first and they barely got foliage and no blooms at all for the first 2 years. After I moved them to sun they took off !
