Vigna vine first year from seed growing up 4x4 rail post.

Sid,there is a little green 4 inch pot sitting on the railing in front of the large vine, started the same time from seed this spring. The one in the pot is about 12 inches long. The one in the ground is about 12 feet long and starting to bloom first year from seed. It will not be covered in large blooms like my three year old vine was, but at least it will bloom if happy. I have my large vine growing in riverbed sand, that is about 8 inches deep, some of the roots grow up under the porch where it gets little, to no moisture. You might want to put a few inches of gravel about 8 to 10 inches below where you plan on growing yours, being you get alot more rain than we do. This vine starts to bloom in August, so you will have to bring your vine in to harvest the seed, they will not be ready before your first hard freeze. That is why I don't grow it in a chain link fence or lattice fence. Grow it on something so that you can easily get it untwined from, with the seed pods intact to bring in the greenhouse. I just went back and read your profile, and you probably have about the most perfect soil to grow this vine in, you lucky thing ! Can't wait to see it next year !
