Pollyannaever, this is the full flower bud. It will bloom from the outer buds inward until all the buds have bloomed and fallen off. I'm glad you enjoyed the picture.

Yes, the Golden/Yellow African Tulip has become very popular in the last 10 years or so. I just discovered last weekend in a shopping center where I shop frequently...they have planted African Tulip trees 5 or 6 of each color in a grassy area. I'm going to take some pictures soon and post them.

I forgot to mention that African Tulip trees all seem to be on their own cycle of blooming. Most of the trees I see here bloom in Summer, Fall into Early Winter...however, I have seen some bloom any month of the year. Very strange!
