This is my Desert Rose plant. It blooms profusely in the summer.
I want to put it in the ground, however, I like to bring into the house for a short period when it is blooming to enjoy it. If it stays in the house for more than 3 days, unfortunately, the leaves and flowers start falling off.

Poaannua,
If you have a very bright window you can keep it indoors during the winter.
This plant is very tender to cold and cannot tolerate cold wet soil without rotting. Although, we had a very wet winter 4 year ago (Extremely wet for San Diego,CA about 20 inches) and my plant survived very well in a plastic pot.
Also, in a pot the plant will not grow very large maybe only 2 or 3 feet tall. My plant is only about a foot tall and is over 5 years old. I have seen plants in the ground here in San Diego almost 10 feet tall.

My plant I purchased in a 3 inch pot for $1.99 or less. I've had it for 5 years or so, and it has grown slowly. I assume if it was planted in the ground it would have grown a little faster. The largest plant I have seen in the ground was 10 feet tall...I can't imagine how old this plant is. I think it was located in the unheated glasshouse at the Los Angeles Arboretum.
I have seen new varieties of this plant recently available for sale (besides the common pink and white). It is available in purple and a very hot pink.
