Acrocarpus fraxinifolius - Pink Cedar

Acrocarpus fraxinifolius - Pink Cedar (Acrocarpus fraxinifolius - Pink Cedar)

This is such a beautiful tall slender tree which blooms in late winter with red to pink flower when the tree is semi-deciduous. It is a native to India, China, Burma, Borneo, Sumatra, Indonesia, Vietnam, and Bangladesh.

It can only be grown in parks and large properties. It grows fast to about 100 feet here in San Diego...however, in wet tropical rain forest it can grow to almost 200 feet (60 meters).

It is beautiful.
Has a certain majesty about it.

Unfortunately, this picture doesn't do the tree justice. The leaves are very long and glossy and the new growth is reddish-pink-colored which usually give the tree a two-toned look

This is not a cedar. It just has the common name pink cedar.

This tree is in the fabaceae (legume family) which includes such genera as:
Cassia, Delonix, Butea, Calliandra and Peltophorum.
