African Violet Mini

African Violet Mini (Saintpaulia ionantha)

I have changed the pot to let the spreading legs settle. I'm not sure what I'm going to do once it outgrows this one.

For little blossoms and leaves sis. :-) This variety also is one of few that can get this big and just keep right on blooming. Its a treasure of mine. This bowl is about 12 inches wide and 4 deep. Still just going strong even after moving it in bloom! It does need a good sit down with a trimmer to give space for newer leaves to develop.

Thanks Arlene. I'm gonna try and get a clearer shot posted. I'm blown by the amount of flowers this one puts on.

I bought a mini african violet recently,
had no idea they could grow as big as this but I hope mine does as well as yours. Wnat is the secret ?

I always set them in water so they drink up from the bottom. Keeps from leaf rot and plenty of indirect light. They don't need a pot deeper than 4 inch. And keep old leaves trimmed so new growth doesn't get smothered. Good luck!

Thank you, do you feed yours and if so how often ?

I haven't fed it since it was a baby three years ago. And that was a general 20-20-20 for all the plants when I would feed every month or two. I feed once a year at best these days. It is in african violet mix soil, higher in peats and organics.

Ahh, I have planted mine in a general potting compost, so I think I had better keep a close watch on it and be prepared to feed as and when.Thank you very much for your helpful information.
