Sandra,
Is this tree burned from sun or from cold or something else? Or is it natural for this species? I've seen some of these species growing here and they do grow very large actually pretty quickly. Most of these trees are from tropical to subtropical areas. This genus resembles Araucaria.

Delonix1
the tree is a reletive of the monkey puzzel.
its green all summer and turns this red colour in autumn (fall). it is realy nice to see in the winter when everything else has died down. i'd love to see a pic of a mature one.

Sandra,
I'll take a picture of a mature one soon and post it.
The Monkey Puzzle Tree (Araucaria araucana) is the hardiest of the
Araucaria species. These trees (Araucaria species) are pretty only
in park setting or in very large properties, because they can be very messy,
I know this first hand, I have an 80 foot (25 meters) tall Norfolk Island Pine (Araucaria heterophylla) in my front yard.
