Quercus (Oak)

Janey

By Janey

Quercus (Oak) (Quercus robur (English oak))

Richmond Park - Gainsborough. This beautiful old Oak tree dates from the 1400s.
The sign stated events during it's lifetime have included Geoffrey Chaucer writing The Canterbury Tales, ....The English Civil War.....The beheading of Anne Boleyn. We found it so incredible, I had to keep touching it's old knobbled bark!

Just imagine what it would tell us, and through it all, it's stood strong, shaking it's boughs at the humans through the ages!

reminds me of trees in a private place that my 2 friends and I used to go into, near our home at Midanbury, Southampton, Hants, when we were kids.

We'd sit up in old oaks like this, and read Enid Blyton Adventure books, or play with those little square toys, re-arranging the letters and symbols, -- forget the name of them. Anyone know?
We'd sit up in the trees for hours.
One time, someone chased my friend and I out of there, (this friend ended up in Australia, they left UK a couple years before we did, - we still keep in touch).

See who else is growing Quercus robur (English oak).

See who else has plants in genus Quercus.
