Butterfly in my Garden

According to some local belief here, a butterfly fluttering in the garden or around the house is a visitation from a loved one who has passed on from this world. My mother's family, "Totem" is a butterfly, though this may sound crazy, with any particular butterfly visit, I am yelling out a friendly "Hello Mum".

Thanks Janette, yes interesting how this happens to be. We have legends here in Fiji, that link us to nature, we have the turtle calling, where a particular tribe on one of our islands call turtles to rise up from the sea, tourists go there to watch this unique happening, also there are red prawns on another beautiful island that is believed to have been cooked prawns falling out a basket of a Fijian suitor who is taking it to his Princess. who had stubbornly rejected it and threw it in the pond where it is now. The Firewalkers of Fiji another group linked with the legends of this place.....I should be writing a book, dont you think?LOL just some info from Fiji for you and Goy Fans!
Take care and rgds, Linda

Lovely colour and a great shot.My neighbour where we used to live always said that the spirits of people came back as Robins in the same way as the local belief for you about the butterflys.Wherever I go I always seem to have a visit from a Robin and always think it is a loved one coming to pay a visit....

Yes, GoY is addictive !
Your joke about writing a book ~
If you ever do have time, maybe you could write a blog for GoY about the legends with some photos of butterflies etc.
There ! I've suggested more ways you can pound on the laptop keys! :o)

Thanks Janette I certainly will, i will write a blog for Goy about this...there are many more interesting legends..one about a particular flower that can only be found on an island here and no where else in the world it can be planted or found.

Panther,
I really like your legend or belief story about the butterfly. In Hawaii, there are so many legends or beliefs. I've heard so many stories and have experienced some...it amazing how there's the seen and the unseen World.
Unfortunately, most people don't believe or can't comprehend this philosophy.
Supposedly, the Huna or Kahunas of Hawaii were the most powerful metaphysical people known in the World. It is very interesting reading...however very HEAVY(intellectually, logically challenging) reading!

Thanks Delonix1, I agree with your thoughts. These beliefs exist where there is richness in culture and for the Pacific, I know for a fact that every island have their own legends and beliefs. How about you put a blog on Hawaii for us to read!!

I've come back to this picture to put it on my favourites. I like the legends associated with the butterfly which you've described above, and I hope you will elaborate on this in a blog, when you have the time. No pressure !
Thank you. :o)

Panther,
I guess I'm going to have eventually write some blogs. I've had a few people at this point express interest in me writing a blog.
I'm a little lazy about writing blogs...writing is not my forte. I'm an analytical and numbers person (an Accountant). However, I shall write one soon.
