That's pretty funny, Irish...at my previous house, the birds would line up for the feeder then scatter when the woodpecker showed up...

lol the wee birds are clever, the starlings are so messy that most of the seed gets scattered on the ground and thats when the smaller birds fly down to get some

I want some sparrows!!! When I was little they were everywhere here. So they dont mind the magpies ??? I love how they chirp even though they are noisy.

They had plenty of feed through the summer. I only feed through winter and early spring...I was taught that mother nature knows how to feed them best. As a child my mother threw dry oatmeal out on the snow...and the snow birds ate from the winter apples still on the tree..the blue jays ate the hazelnuts that my dad harvested from his orchard much to his chagrin...LOL...they never did feed any other time than winter, so I suppose I never have either.

Lovely photo. The sparrows in my 'flats' are very camera shy and although they come to the feeder, they are very flighty if anything else appears (including me!)

Do you change the food when the birds are feeding their young Irish? I think I've read that whole peanuts can be dangerous for the little ones. I understand meal worms are good too when the birds and struggling to feed an hungry brood.
