These are usually green in my area but this one was almost the same color as the redwood she was sitting on. Just had to get a picture.

These insects are so good for the garden and harmless to humans...I have a picture of my granddaughter when she was 3 watching one crawl all over her...her daddy was showing her how great they were to watch...

About 4 inches long, Wohli....probably a female based on the large abdomen..I had never seen one of the larger ones in any color but bright leaf green

I add to the applause. Mine are green, if and whenever (rarely) we find them. They were much more numerous back East. I too have never seen a brown one before, but for for Camouflage reasons. it makes sense.

Oh, but they are so gentle and fun to watch because they do a lot of rocking back and forth and they fold those front legs into a praying position most of the time.
