Thanks everyone. I know what you mean, Lori, about squirrels and overhead shortcuts. This one (and others very like him) go up our overhead telegraph/electric poles and along the wires to get to and fro from the woods.

We see so many of them crushed on the streets and on occasion I've almost involved my car in a fender bender trying to avoid hitting the little dare devils!!. they can be a little twitter pated, chasing each other around...and chocking away the acorns...that they just dash out onto busy streets.
