Hedychium coronarium-Butterfly Ginger

Gingers have such a diversity of flowers dont they, I have never grown them before, but did get a couple different one's in the autumn sales to over winter in the greenhouse, (reduceced price of course) hope to have some flowers next year

Yes FF gingers do have a diversity flowers, I hope yours does flower next year and TT white flowers are lovely I love them too :-)

we have Cyprepedium parviflorum orchids that will naturalize in our climate of extremes.... Just received an online catalogue and they are listed for sale at $40. a piece! to plant a little clump of three...that's $120.!! Our more common wild flowers are trilliums, mayflowers, dogtooth violets( actually a lily) ,and sweet violets, The white trillium is the emblem of the province of Ontario and it is protected by law...it takes them 7 years from seed to blossom... so they could be wiped out easily... lucky you with wild ginger!!

Hi Gilli, thanks for the kind note. Yes they are sweet smelling flowers and are used in leis (neck garlands) here as well.

I am trying to start some Yellow Ginger from seed, Panther. I planted them 2 weeks ago but nothing yet. :o(

Patience is the word Gilli, over here we just plant the roots. They need lots of water, so just make sure that the soil in your container is always moist. I hope you get some positive results soon ;-)
