Agave americana - Century Plant

Agave americana - Century Plant (Agave americana - Century Plant)

These plants are as common as grass....this plant is 8+ feet (2.5 meters) tall. It looks like it's about to push out the flower spike.
I'll post some blooming ones soon...as there are many blooming right now. Took photo this afternoon.

Wagger, it does make a bold statement! It does grow mostly in open areas.

Marguerite, I agree with you, very nasty spikes! My neighbor in the San Francisco Bay Area had a large one of these plants on the border my property and I got poked a couple of times...the pain is horrible and lingers for hours...I eventually, cut the tips off.(on my property anyway).

This plant can be grown as a pot plant, however, it will stay small.

We have a century plant on our grounds. It looks just like this one its about 15 years old and has a center growing out that is about 35 feet tall and looks like an aspargus stalk now it has little arms growing out of the stalk. We are amazed at this plant.. Does anyone know what will happen to it next? Thanks..
