They are a little less purple in real life. Still stunning though.

I can also see why they are called Elkhorns :)

Why don't they call them Moosehorns is what I want to know...they look like moose antlers and you have Mooses or is that Meeses out behind your place too...lol

I think you're right CJ. They look more like moose antlers than elk. Very pretty flower though.

You must have moose too..Gilli..right?

Not in the back yard CF but yes, we have Moose around here too. I have a photo I took at the end of last summer of a young Moose and a young Elk who seemed to be friends. They were in a pond together. Not a good photo though as it was getting dark. Too light for the flash but not light enough for no flash....if you know what i mean.

Gilli, Would have enjoyed seeing the moose and elk together. I hike in the small patch of woods here three or four times a week, I've only seen moose three times, when the plums are ripe on the neighbor's tree -a cow and a yearling. The elk graze in the bluegrass field about a quarter mile away in the early spring. Usually 25 head with some yearling bulls.

"Can't you like go out into the woods with a pocket knife and a Q-tip and build me a shopping mall?" (Six Days and Seven Nights) Perhaps, after thinking long and hard you can forgive him. Obviously it is a complement that he stole your name, he must have deep respect for you.

OOOH! nice of you to suggest that he has a deep etc, I however doubt it very much or he would have come and asked me himself, still never mind...
I can usually survive very well in the woods even without the q tip! however the whole shopping mall thing I feel has been done to death , these days (and its a slow process) i'm more into going out into malls annd turning them into woods with a used fast food wrapper and a single match!

Indy has been my name (it is actually a contraction of my full name) since I was very small, my dad used to call me and say to me" YOU'RE INDYP SH** NOW son", and though I never then understood why the family name had been so arbitrarily changed, I squared my little shoulders and answered If you say so Sir!

Aw you're still sensitive about it, buck up, learn to deal with life as it comes, my boy. Otherwise "you're Indyp sh**. LOL LOL

Probably should re-think the match thing too. :-)

We're taking our oldest grandson who is 16 to Portland, OR today to meet with our 7 year old granddaughter so that we can go see the lizard show at the OMSI. She loves all things creepy-crawly. (I prefer to keep my distance from large furry spiders.) Then we are going to the Flight Museum to see the Spruce Goose and the rest of the winged things. Have a nice weekend.
