This small shrub flowers on and off throughout the year - including the winter!

I just checked the Genus for Gorse (Ulex) and this plant - and they belong to the same family! Leguminosae in latin. So, yes, Amy, they are related!
However, as Gilli says, this one is a nice shrub - it doesn't have ANY prickles!

I have just posted a picture of this on my profile, the variety which is Coronilla valentina subs. glauca 'Citrina'. This is a beautiful shrub which can climb, this is an established shrub growing on the Isle of Wight at The Botanical Gardens
