Great excitement this afternoon - two herons circled the duck pond. I rushed out with my camera in slippers and without coat - lined up the camera and snapped. Nothing! I had forgotten to take the cap off the camera!! Waited and waited until they circled again but every time I snapped all I captured was branches and bare blue sky. One even landed in a tree opposite my garden and in my excitement I just missed it. Finally caught this one before they flew off, calling to each other. (I think they were laughing at me!).

Wish I'd seen you - if it's the one that emptied my pond, would you shoot it with a gun instead of a camera next time please! You will be able to recognise it by how fat it is.

You got your photo eventually.
