Yes that is actually a Poinciana (Delonix Regia) that has just grown up in the bush - we have lots of them popping in the bush around here.

Marguerite as you can tell from my photos our property is surrounded by these ghost gums and I never ever tire of looking at them and the way they change over the seasons - well the two seasons we have here, the dry and the wet!!

Actually this year was the first for a very, very long time that I can remember getting several great thunderstorms - they were ferocious this year and I believe during the couple of weeks that we had them, there were over 1,000 lightning strikes recorded around the city. We lost power one day in various parts of the city for over 10 hours because on one lightning strike. Where I live out here in the hills we hear lots of thunderstorms travelling a far way away on the other side of the range out to Charters Towers and places further out west. Many times the storms just don't make it over this way. The storms we get here usually come in from the north or from the sea.
