I had to plant some pale variegated ivy on the wall behind it, as its colour got a bit lost against the dark wall. It looks a lot better now. :-)

actually i do Spritz, mine looks more orangey than it did last year, but it is in a more sunny location than it was last year, i wonder if this has anything to do with it? as i recal i said at the time your was more orange than mine, but looking at these two pic's i do think they are the same. i lost the ticket for mine so not sure on variety.

and yes i like the ivy behind, i need to do something like this when i move mine, cos you just can't see the flowers unless really close up, it is such a shame they really are stunning - do you remeber AndrewR told us this last year! lol

I do indeed! That's one reason why I went and bought the ivy - and it was SOOO difficult to get it to cling onto the wall!

lol - actually i could try this, i am thinking of putting mine under the holly tree, and there is some willow screen there, i could always plant some ivy at the base of the willow screen, then wire it on until it gets going, thing is don't really want it rampaging through the back of the bed, is there types i should avoid?

The one I got seems fine - its name is 'Adam'. It has very attractive leaf markings.

i think if i stick to a varigated one that has small leaves we often get them in the shop, this should be alright, i think the dark green ones seem to be more thugish, the other option i have is my low growing Euonymus that is a bit on the yellow/lime side, that might work quite well, i may even be able to get this to creap up a bit... now there's a thought!

yes i have it too on the other side of the garden, but what about the varigated ones - i know they are slower growing, but there is one (a varigated variety) running riot up a garden wall along our street, thankfully no where near my garden and it is a smallish leaf one, - i pulled some off to use as ivy trials in a brides BQ last year, it is very pretty, but very well established, and it is back with a vengance, this year. not trying to put you off Spritz, this does look lovely what you have done here, and obvioulsy you can always pull it out if it becomes a pain, but i have a smaller garden than you, think i might play safe, as lovely as this looks and go with the Euonymus instead, i think it will climb with a little help, this area will not be easy to get too once i get planted up, so don't want to have to keep pulling something up if it goes a bit mad.

I have some holly trees Majeekahead with screening and I have Green Ripple ivy it blends in very well it is not only covering the ground at the base of the holly trees but is also climbing up the screening . !

I love this red one ....I haven't seen it before....gorgeous!
