First clump of snowdrops

Lovely Spritz..are they doubles ?

Not sure, to be honest - the grass is so soggy that I didn't kneel down and look. I do have some doubles, so they could be.

Well they look great anyway.Ours are just two inches high and no flowers yet !

You are lucky Spritz! Your plants look great even at this time of year. I need to set more snowdrops, may I ask, when is the best time to set bulbs, I want to get some under my trees. I keep thinking, one more week to go and then Feb is a short month :-)

Beautiful. The wet gives them an even more tender look than they have already. I love these little things.

Yes spritz, I believe there are subtle differences between ours. Mine has wider leaf blades and the seed head section seems to be more pronounced. Hope you can unravel the mystery for us ...:-)

Dawn - buy them 'in the green' which means as they finish flowering. They will take and flower next year, then. If you buy dry bulbs in the autumn they often just dry up. Look in the adverts in gardening magazines, you'll find them there. :-)

OR - look for some in pots at your GC - they'll be more expensive of course, but it just depends how many you want.

Lovely Spritz....spring is on its way! I looked at Mums today but they're only leaves with no flowers this year....I wonder why?

They are so pretty and uplifting aren't they. Have just found my first lone one from a bulb this weekend! Going to take your advice and get some 'in the green'. We have a lovely day out at Pencarrow called Snowdrop Sunday on the 8th Feb and hope to pick some up from there. They pot and sell them in case anyone has visions of me taking my trowel along!

They ARE doubles - I lifted one up to have a look! There are a lot more out now.

Great - except that the weather forecast for next week informed me that snow is on its way...maybe we shall both see our snowdrops in snow? They won't show up very well, though...:-(

I read recently that this is the coldest winter for 10 years, and this may be the reason why snowdrops are so late. Mine won't be flowering for another week, and I have photos of the same ones in full flower this time last year.

My snowdrops are in the post, lol, along with the bluebells, thanks Spritz!

I love snowdrops. I have just spotted our first clump just down below the house. I have read somewhere that if you want to move them it should be while they are in flower is this so?
I want to put them into a pot before the house comes down so they are safe.

Hi Sophiejo - not necessarily in flower - but 'in the green' which means while their leaves are there! Dry bulbs don't always grow - probably because they are so tiny that they dry up. They should be fine in a pot - for a while. Plant them as soon as you can, though!
