wow...great pic, Elke! they are beautiful to look at but not very nice to the other birds...

They are real bullies. We have a flock of about 20. Some people cage their feeders to allow only the small birds in, as the jays can be very greedy, not to mention expensive! But what colour and style, eh?

We lived in the far northern part of Ontario, and we had the gray jays there...(also known as a shrike or butcher bird because they were predators)... they had their own reason for being near the feeders...they would kill smaller birds...but they are very curious brassy creatures...they would often come to hunting camps and become quite tame, taking bits of moose meat, bacon or bread, from the hand!

OOP, Thanks for the tip Lori, here I was thinking I'd put a feeder for bigger seed and birds even if it was just gray jays, which I'm not terribly fond of. Now I know they might get my other birds!
