Freezing rain on the window

I can't see the front garden this morning - the freezing rain last night left a thick coat of ice on everything.

I know! One of my clients is a window/door manufacturer, and I sent it to the person I deal with there, as an example of 'genuine frosted glass'. She was amused!

Do you need special glass to cope with the freezing temperatures ?

All our windows are double-glazed, and can withstand hurricane-force winds, as we are on a coast susceptible to hurricanes (Hurricane Juan in 2003, for instance). So I don't think there's a problem. Had some trouble getting into the car though - had to chip the ice off before the door would open!

You do well to cope with such cold conditions.
Which months is it not cold ?
i.e. no snow, and you can do actual gardening with flowers blooming outside?
I got more interested in Canadian geography drawing those freehand maps for my Winter Wellie Olympics blog !

You did very well with the maps, TT. The blog was great. We start to see some green shoots at the beginning of May. The forsythia is the first bush to flower. This area is famous for its early azaleas. Then the rhododendrons start in early June. From then on it's a free for all. August and September are the warmest/nicest months for weather, and the cooler nights help keep the plants blooming right to October. Then we can get an early frost. But the fall colours are so pretty. We don't find it that cold - even our relatives from the UK find the much colder temps here much more bearable than what is experienced in the UK. I think it's the damp there that makes it go right into your bones. Here it's enjoyable, especially when the sun shines on fresh snow. Perhaps I'll do a '4-seasons in NS' blog sometime...

Thanks for that explanation. I'm glad you like my Canada blogs.
Yes, please, I would very much like a "4 seasons in NS" blog when you have the time. I had begun to wonder just how short a summer season you experience in Canada !
I've heard it said before that the 'dry cold' doesn't get to your bones like the 'damp cold' in parts of Europe. Thank you. :o)
Snow coming down fast again here in England today. Damp cold. ! :o(
