Sorry Jacque but it's not a shire and although I know nothing of horses I can appreciate beauty and power when I see it. It's much smaller than a shire but packed with muscle. At the Kent Show it was working, pulling logs etc. Beautiful it certainly is.

Easy mistake to make, Jacque. Does anyone remember the Kennards store at Croydon? They used to have horses going round in a circle so that children could have a ride whIile parents shopped. I grew up telling everyone that they were retired shire horses. I loved them and remembered how my legs were stuck straight out because of their size! When I was about 35 I mentioned this in front of my mother who, amid much hilarity, broke the news to me that they were shetland ponies! I was so disappointed - I just didn't remember how small I was then (and am still only 5').

I have always felt sorry for the childrens ride horses too Drfadi..but this sort of horse that is harnessed for this sort of work..usually enjoy their craft...and like having a job to do...you can tell their happiness in achieving something...
