Cyclamen coum

I'd like to establish these in the grass under one of my trees - do they get planted shallowly?

I plant _Cyclamen coum_ quite shallowly, ie only just below the surface. If you are going to plant in grass you might want to try them a little deeper to ensure that you don't take the tops off the corms with the mower!
A few Christmases ago my son was posted to Cambridge and we spent the holiday with him. I remember visiting the colleges and, upon crossing the R. Cam comeing into a park with _C. coum_ in flower beneath all the trees lining an avenue. It was a truely beautiful sight.

Thanks for the advice. I reckon it would cost a bomb to make a decent display - but I might plant just a few each year! I saw some at the GC last week and hesitated over them... not like me! LOL

Yes, it would cost a bomb to make a good display from bought corms. Have you thought of growing them from seed? c. 3 years to flowering? I could probably collect quite a lot of seed in early summer and send down to you. They need to be sown as freshly as possible to get quick germination although they can be propogated from seeds from the exchanges of various clubs. Let me know and I will p.m. you for an address when I have some seed.
