I like these too, add interest to a garden.

I grew some from seed last year so hopefully they'll flower and have great seed heads this year like this one. Do they attract the birds into yoiur garden to eat the seeds Amy. That's mainly why I decided to grow some but anoter GOY member (can't remember who it was ) said that the birds don't feed from their's.

They do Paul , but I do wonder if we are making Birds lazy by supplying so much bird food , it,s easier for them to pick it of a bird table than it is for them to forage for their own , What do you think ? ........

Yes, I agree but then, having said that, they tend to stop coming to my feeders in the late summer when there's so much in the fields near us.
It's a tricky one because we don't want to see some of the species die out, so we entice them into our gardens when we see stories of dropping numbers but are we actually helping or not. I'm not sure.
I love to see them feeding though, but maybe this is a selfish thing although I've always thought that it was helping. I suppose we can never really know.

I must admit I,m the same , I love watching them and encourage them into the garden , we tell ourselves that we are saving them , I like to think so ,we will carry on feeding them untill we are told otherwise :o)
