This must be your Brazilian Portugese connection at work Alenya, these plants are very popular in the Algarve. I am going on sunday to the old village in Villamoura, I will try to get some photos for you.
It looks like even though you only have a balcony for your plants you crave a garden to sit in.

This photo was taken in the same street where the rubber tree is.
My guess is that these flowers are wild to the soil here, because you can see some smaller ones growing wild in the parks by december.
Only these big ones come out late february or early march.
and yes, I only have a balcony to grow my plants... once in a while i'm lucky and very often i fail miserably... :( killed my tomato during last storm, saving the spider orchid.
I wont give up though... will try again next may :)

I agree with Tasteyg, I think they are Amaryllis belladonna - Naked Lady Lilies. I used to have these growing wild at my house in The San Francisco Bay Area.

I have been to Sausalito many, many times. It's one of my favorite places also. What's so nice about about Sausalito is that it's always much warmer/less windy (virtually none) than San Francisco because it's protected by the Marin Headlands.

I lived in the San Francisco Bay Area for 35 years from 1965-2000.

I spent only three months (from late august to early december) in San Francisco, lived with friends in Brisbane, south San Francisco behind the Berkeley Hills.
The backyard porch heads to the hills allowing the most impressive view of the ocean fog... rolling down in slow motion....
I have a lot of pictures, all them in paper, maybe one day will have time enough to scan them and post the pictures.

I kind of feel sorry for you...The City of South San Francisco is not the nicest place in my opinion...Brisbane is a little better...however, it a really cool part of the bay - because of the San Bruno Gap, it's always very windy, cool and damp. The Berkeley Hills are a wonderful place...I've spent many of times in Berkeley.

I always lived in the Central and South S.F. Bay...it's 20 to even 30 degrees warmer than the cities immediately around San Francisco.

How can Delonix1 have lived 35 years in San Francisco Bay area, when his photo shows he is only 23 years old ? Lol.
