well the first year when we grew them in 2007 my next door neighbour who is italian told my husband to cut the stem, what she meant was to trail some stick round to wind it up and then to use cut tights which are expandable to train it to expand, but what happened it snapped so that year only 4, but last year when we grew them from one plant we got between 6-12 cucumbers, but they were meditterean cucumbers which are more bendier and the taste is better in my opinion than the long english ones. I also grow basil and my husband's speciality are runner beans. I like things in pots and then once the summer ends it can all be thrown away. My husband's ideal would be to have an allotment one day, i would be no good at that, i would do the cooking which i love and he can do the digging.
Happy gardening
