For Hywel - this is what I consider a garden pest.

Here is one of what I consider to be a real garden pest - taken today looking through the window onto my verandah. Love wallabies, birds and other animals in my garden - but not these.

Bernieh, do you use sulphur or any repellent for snakes ? Do be careful for the next few days until the snake is gone / caught.

Is it a poisonous snake Bernieh? We get smallish snakes in the garden sometimes called "garter snakes". They are good for the garden as they eat slugs and snails but they aren't poisonous.

Toto no I'm not sure what this one was. It was not one of the usual tree snakes we get.

Terratoonie - yes I often come across snakes when I'm gardening in the spring/summertime and autumn - not so many during winter. I usually see one about every two or three weeks between September and April.

Autumn - no I don't use anything as a repellent - our property is just too big and it's surrounded by bushland. Snakes are a part of the environment out here.

Gilli - don't think it was poisonous although it didn't back down when I made noise. Usually the tree snakes just take off when they hear you coming. I had to retreat from this one and take an alternate route back to the house.

Bernieh:
It looks like a beautiful snake...although, I don't think I would like to meet up with one. It looks pretty long.
We have many snakes in California...but the venomous rattlesnake is the big problem here. People routinely get bitten by these snakes in the Spring-Fall.
