Puffing Billy

This steam trains runs once every fortnight past the back of my sons house, it goes from Manchester to Huddersfied, as you can imagine it creates quite a stir amongst the Steam Train enthusiastics all out with their cameras to get a shot!

I was born1950 in a city area between all the two main rail-streams. Your foto really makes me nostalgic, because to me those lokomotives were like somehow living creatures, monster insects or so. And they had white and black steam coming out at the same time, when they got prepared or drove to their hangars.

Hi Nelke, know what you mean when past memories are stirred These engines were also part of my childhood I am lucky where we live as I can get a good view of them a they go past on their fortnightly journey!

Pennyspotter, in Germany they have gone. People here try not to be nostalgic.... a pity. This could be one another reason, to live in England...

Nelke Even though you no longer have steam trains. you still your lovely memories of them, The few that we have left over here are used mainly for pleasure trips now.

Pennyspotter, When I first came to London - it was 1972, and I came in by train... train gets in slowly, and I see all those arches. They all were like bearded with soot-plugs. I´d never seen it like that since childhood and had to cry. All those very toxic outbursts of industry were to me like home! since I was born in the so-called Ruhr-Pott (an industrial centre).

Pensypotter - now I got Your name right, I guess: I have a photo for You between mine (don´t know how to specially send it): a little train, just without steam.

great shot. A train used to run past the end of my maternal grandma's garden, at Swaythling, Southampton, - as kids we used to run to the fence and wave to the engine drivers and they'd wave back to us. Nice memories.

These trains are so rare now we are lucky to have a line so near that runs regular journeys, just love it when you hear the drver sound the horn so nostalgic!
