I've got this one too - but you don't see it in many gardens here anymore. It was quite common in my grandma's day but seems to have lost favour. I think it's still a fabulous shrub when in full flower and those flowers are so lovely - I can remember sucking the nectar from them when I was a child.

Wow, what memories, Bernieh !
An attractive flower. Pity it has lost popularity in some gardens...

Yes Terratoonie I suppose everything goes through cycles - and certain supposedly 'old-fashioned' plants love favour. There are certainly lots more choices for our gardens today than there was for previous generations.

I agree with you Bernieh where there are more choices in plants today than previously. Such lovely memories of the past a flower has, I remember doing the same with the single delicate petals of the exora flower before threading it into my imaginative lei back then :-)

Yes, Malvaviscus arboreus - Cardinal's/Turk's Cap is a very commonly grown plant here. It grows as a large-scale ground cover shrub, mostly under trees.

Bernieh, I've heard about the sweet nectar from the flowers, however, haven't been brave enough to taste it....I know the humming birds love them though.
