I have just been getting up to date with Nosey's pond blog. Nosey is of the belief that there is no one upmanship amongst gardeners. Well, Nosey I can tell you that you are so wrong. Things can get very nasty indeed, especially if Milky gets involved. She has been casting nasturtiums on my claims of having more and much, much bigger ones than she has, but here is evidence. Theses are a mere 3ft long and are the babies. Daren't get near the bigger ones at the moment as they are eating.

Me Too Terry, Literally, are they Grass snakes?
16 Apr, 2009
These are not just slow-worms, these are "Essex" slow-worms.
16 Apr, 2009
Toto, they may well be "Essex" slow-worms - but it still DOES NOT make them any more endearing !!
16 Apr, 2009
You wouldn't say that to their faces Terry.
16 Apr, 2009
I like the colour of the coppery one, but would still freak and scream the neighbourhood down if they got anywhere near me!
16 Apr, 2009
Aww wish I had some lovely and harmless well the ones up here are - suspect the Essex ones bite especially each other ..ouch Milky .lol

What's wrong with you, Terry, Daisy and Puddles? - they're gorgeous - and don't get taken in by that Toto, even the Essex ones have a lovely nature. Bad boy, Toto, go and stand in the corner.
16 Apr, 2009
Look at those lovely, innocent little faces - just think of them as elongated tortoises without shells and legs! There, what's so scarey about them?
16 Apr, 2009
You tell 'em, Gee.
16 Apr, 2009
OMG, you have more ..... I agree they are beautiful creatures and harmless but I'm pleased they're in Essex, well away from me.
16 Apr, 2009
HE IS JUST A BIG HEAD................he he he They dont look 3 feet long to me......hes bragging.............
16 Apr, 2009
Wagger, yeah i do agree they look good - doesn't mean I'd want to jump into bed with them though!!!
16 Apr, 2009
Nope, sorry folks you may well all be trying to convince me that they are lovely creatures, but I assure you it ain't working - I definitley wouldn't dare say how horrible they are to their faces, Toto, as I simply couldn't get that near to them !!!
17 Apr, 2009
They're fantastic. I'm always coming across them in peoples compost bins and heaps when I'm working! They love a wardm spot, it seems!
17 Apr, 2009
Bet yours are bigger Maureen, lol, much bigger in fact, ha ha.
17 Apr, 2009
Dawnsaunt. I suspect you are trying to stir it.
Milky's only jealous so will go along with her. Wouldn't want to upset her, would we?
17 Apr, 2009
Ha Ha Toto ... you're right, wouldnt want to upset Milky, just offering her some female support, lol. Where is she tonight anyway? By the way, please feel free to abbreviate me to just Dawn :-)
17 Apr, 2009
Ok Dawn. Thanks for that. Milky can't stand the pace. She is probably down in her compost bin with Ray trying to stretch her slow-worms.
17 Apr, 2009
Of course, that's where she is ... Ray will be asleep by now though :)
17 Apr, 2009
~I have seen adders locally~although not for a while~ and they look harmless too~one bit a local dog on the eye and the poor thing died~swap for these please!
17 Apr, 2009
Your probably right about Ray and as I don't think Milky's a quitter she'll up all night with each slow-worm on the rack individually.
Unfortunately a few dogs die each year from adder bites as dogs tend to harass them. An adder, given the chance, will get away from large animals, including humans if it can. I still feel sorry for the dog though.
18 Apr, 2009
At least my grass snakes are harmless :-)
18 Apr, 2009
Yes Dawn they are harmless, but although not poisonous they can still and will bite if you upset them. Treat them nice and they are very relaxed once they know you mean them no harm.
18 Apr, 2009
Promise I wont upset them Toto :-) It won't happen as I will be running the other way, lol. How's the wasp's nest?
18 Apr, 2009
The wasps nest is a little bigger, but not much. I am taking the odd pic so if anything develops I will have a blog to write.

Awww come on you lot! they are just lizards without legs! and definitely the gardeners friend! wonder if they will eat cockroaches? and earwigs? and sow bugs? oh my!
27 Apr, 2009
I've tried to tell them Lori but don't seem to be able to convert them.
28 Apr, 2009
You're definitely fighting a losing battle with me I'm afraid !!!
28 Apr, 2009
Sorry to hear that Terry. They are beautiful, misunderstood friends.
28 Apr, 2009
Nothing delights me more than pulling something back and finding one - or two - of these.
29 Apr, 2009
Oh Wagger !!!! How could you !!
29 Apr, 2009
They're beautiful, Terry - smooth and warm - very precious in the garden.
29 Apr, 2009
I think your wasting your time Wagger.
29 Apr, 2009
So do I Toto - still, leaves them for us to appreciate!
29 Apr, 2009
They're all yours with pleasure you two !!!!!
29 Apr, 2009
Ok we'll keep them. Terry and the other non believers don't know what they are missing don't know what they're missing.
29 Apr, 2009
Brilliant pic well done have never seen two together in the wild excellent can you send me some?
11 Aug, 2009
I'll give them your address and they can walk.
12 Aug, 2009
Oh well next lifetime then..lol
12 Aug, 2009
It maybe as they are legless at the moment.
12 Aug, 2009
Thats why I said next lifetime Toto (when they get legs), and theyre sure to as they do soooo much good in the garden converting slugs to manure heh heh heh
12 Aug, 2009
I agree Indy. As you probably know, in the past they did have legs and are now legless lizards and not snakes as many believe. Leglessnes is not such a bad thing, it helps you to relax.
12 Aug, 2009
Second that motion , my round i think what you having Toto?
12 Aug, 2009
I'm sure we could enjoy a few pints together Indy. Shame about the distance between us.
13 Aug, 2009
A journey of a thousand miles...starts with a single pint lol !
13 Aug, 2009
Hear hear Indy.
