Grass!

I have had two clumps of this grass for several years but I have never seen it with these strange 'thingys' before! It could be that I just wasn't that observant before GoY when I could walk out into the garden without my camera!

They look like flower to me, must not just be a grass. Do you know the plants name? If you didn't miss anything, it probably just got old enough without disturbance to propagate. :)
