I hope you aren't offended, but I think you will find that what you have here is a Pyrrholoxia. A Cardinal relative native to your area and much rarer. It is a beautiful bird and you are lucky to have it visit you. It has a small range in the US and isn't all that common!

Nope, not offended in the least. The common name for the Pyrrholoxia is the desert cardinal; I just shortened it a bit. Thanks anyway, glad you like it.
