It's beautiful, would love to grow this around my own front door - is it in a pot Grannysue? I don't have any available soil nearby.

It is in the soil and it is only 2 years old so we are naturally thrilled with it. I just trim back the stray bits that get in the way of a clear passage to the door. Sue

Yes can't wait for next spring. It is certainly worth the wait.At the moment it is just bare but as it dosn't get cut back - except to get out of the door we have to live with it.
Last year a pair of blackbirds made a nest in the trellis at the side where it originally grew up. Not a good move as it happened as the cats must have climbed up as we found an empty nest not long after the parents began bringing food. I was horrified but alas unable to do anything. The nest was sited only 5 feet up and was parcially covered but of course the chirping would have alerted the moggies. Grrr! The birds must have thought that we would protect them as they were only a couple of feet from our front door!! I just wish we had been able to. :~))

Just lovely Granny. I'd like to try this myself. Too bad about the birds. What can you do?

Thankfully this year the birds had more common sense (who says birds have small brains?) they chose a tree 2 gardens down and succesfully reared their brood. I am presuming that they are the same pair who continued to dig up my border to pillage for their worms and other yummy insects as they headed straight back to the tree after their forrage! it was a delight to watch them as they are such expressive little birds.
I am sure you will enjoy growing a clematis around your door way. Mine was so fast growing and we were able to enjoy flowers the first year. i look forward to hearing your success.

Thankyou so much Powderbrush for your very nce comments on my Clematis. It is a joy to be inspirational to you and your husband. It practically looks after itself and I look forward to seeing yours once you have one planted one and it is rampaging up and over your entrance. The top of the porch is concrete and really needed hiding so I hope my plant carries on flowering for a long time to come. Love Sue x
