Lovely colour!

I have brought with me to this garden some 55 divisions of this plant, which I usually do not allow to flower, because i just love the dark brown foliage. Do you think that I could use these, somehow, to create a floral "chocolate waterfall" or "chocolate river", on a small scale?

What a good idea David. I have no idea how you would do it but I bet it'll look fantastic.

Ooooooo David iv an idea ! make a Curved line of Seed Trays/Bin Liners & Plant it into them im sure the Leaves/Folage will cover it in no time :) What do u think ?:)

Thanks, folks!

Jacque, you have something there. You seem yto have remembered that all my planting has to be done in containers of some sort, or raised beds, and, yes, it has to curve like a real river. Now you've got me thinking of sun-/ sea-bleached logs or driftwood branches to represent white chocolate logs, used to create levels, and to offset the dark chocolate foliage. Two or 3 of our "chocolate" shrubs on a raised "banking" underplanted with some real grass, with buttercups (mentioned in the story in connection with WW's prized cows, lol!). The shrubs would sort of screen off my "patio", too. Hmmmm............................... :-)

Great pic David! I love this stuff.... I have planted it in three different parts of my garden...the plants on the rocky slope are doing the best! We've had a beastly cold spring but it is chuffing along! I've found that the flowers don't last that long so don't snag them...they are gorgeous.

Hi Lori!

So....you have your own horticultural chocolate waterfall, then? I have kept the flowers, because they are brilliant and, yes, they'll be gone all too soon. Glad that the temps are improving in your "neck of the woods". :-)

Lori, I've been looking for this plant out here and can't seem to find it. Did you grow your's from seed or did you get a start?

20 May, 2009

~ Mahogany,,,I love it! ~ I bought potted offsets in 4 inch pots at the local nursery, Gilli... According to predictions things are due to change weatherwise, David...we've had a very cool spring...and the heat is supposed to set in by mid June...looks like it's going to be a year of precipitous changes...today it's winter~ tomorrow summer! lol. I has been a very strange cold spring.

My own 55 plants are the product from just 3 cuttings given me by a work colleague 2 years ago! Have carted them through 2 further gardens, in conainers. Time to let 'em go, like a mini damburst, I think.

Weather? Have got my first coat of brown, as would expect here come April/May, due to hours and sunshine outdoors. But have had a few days of heavy winds and rain simultaneously, as normal, so I know not to be tricked into planting out my stuff too early. :-)

21 May, 2009

It is so hard to contain ones optimism...when the first nice warm days arrive it is tempting to plant and hope for the best and cover if it comes to the worst!! lol.

21 May, 2009

Yes, Lori, but come next weekend, we'll all be able to burst into the song, "June is Burstin' Out All Over". Are you all ready?

21 May, 2009

June??? June!!! I'm not even used to April yet and we left that a month ago!!! :o( LOL

22 May, 2009

Oh Gilli... i like your calendar better than the one everyone else is using...I could use a re-take. Didn't care much for April...and May has been purely strange... maybe a Control-Alt-Delete would give us a fresh beginning! Can't wait to be singin' "Summer time...and the livin' is easy!"

25 May, 2009

"I wanna know, have you ever seen the rain?
Comin' down on a sunny day"

Describes the weather here the minute I got my new sunlounger, lol! But, I'm always the optimist! :-)

25 May, 2009

Think of the rain as liquid sunshine David. You'll get a lovely rain tan.

I think summer has arrived here.....we kind of missed spring. The temps have soared up to the high 80F's. Mind you, that's nothing to what the temps will be in another month or so.

29 May, 2009

Hi Gilli!

Will never get to the 80s here, alas. Supposed to be low to mid 70s here all weekend and into next week, which'll do nicely for me, with our national garden show on this weekend. :-)

29 May, 2009

Well as our weather comes "on the Westerlies" perhaps those 80's temps are headed our way...at present it's more like David's. Is that terminology "rain tan" a western thing? We used to joke about going out west to get a rain tan, Gilli! small world.
...so if it's National Garden show weekend...we can expect some nice pics next week, David? :-)

30 May, 2009

Must admit, Lori, the "rain tan" was a newbie to me. Thought it might more resemble "weather-beaten" to me! Yes, will post pics / do a blog Saturday night, as me and the children off on a 3-day adventure to the Scottish Highlands Sunday morn! Yippee! :-)

30 May, 2009

I think 'rain tan' is a Vancouverism Lori!! LOL

David, have a wonderful time on your 3-day adventure. We will be waiting for pics!! :o)

David... did you buy Ajuga Reptans Chocolate Chip...?
I've just seen it on Alzheimer's pics...
I expect you have it... I just couldn't find it on your photos. :o)
