It's ok Volunteer I wouldn't dream of it ! I'm actually quite envious, there's a restriction on keeping chickens on my house deeds, but I have wondered would anybody object. Perhaps I might sound out the neighbours opinions. Would you say there was a minimum amount of space a couple of hens would need ?

As a child I met a very happy hen who lived in a small backyard, they do like a bit of company though. I had 2 silkie girls at my old house, they were lovely and only made a noise when they laid an egg. Aphrodite, the older one was very sociable and used to come in the house, she was very gentle, her daughter Mimi was a bit pushy. When I dug or weeded in the garden they would follow me around to eat whatever I grubbed up. A fox got them, I got too complacent.

Well, Muddywalters, they can manage in a few sqaure metres but soon reduce the ground to mud! Mine are kept in a run with bark flooring that I can change. They roam around the garden when I'm home. Does anyone read house deeds? It might be an idea to ask the immediate neighbours first, after all, you'll need a hen-sitter for when you might be away! They aren't noisy, unless they are a cockerel in disguise!!
