Beastly creatures, get the pellets out you can get the ones that are not harmful to birds and pets!!

~hostas seem to be a particular favourite~touch wood since I put mine in a tall pot and put a thick layer of sharp gravel all round it seems to be working~fingers crossed!

Oh I sympathise Irish, I really do! I must have the National Collection of Slugs and Snails!! I'm down to one Hosta now, and this year I've put it in a hanging basket to see if that will help...so far it's looking OK, but it's only a matter of time before they find it...

Very strange, I have this one and it is the only one that has suffered slug/snail attack. I wonder if this is tastier than the others? I have resorted to animal safe pellets where the plants are in pots.

Oh no..
Hope it will recover, Irish..

Oh, what a shame. I bet you've tried everything to stop the little blighters for damaging your plants.

I spoke too soon! After the night rain I have found two more hostas that have been attacked in spite of putting pellets in the pot :(

aye Joanii, they have eaten so many plants already this yr
19 May, 2009
aw no Gee, is there much damage to the plants
19 May, 2009
Several leaves on each plant. Can't find any trace of slug slime anywhere near the plant though. Perhaps it is something else having a nibble.

What else eats Hostas, though?? Earwigs?? I don't know, Gee.

When I come home from bowls late tonight I will look and see if anything is lurking!
