Jacaranda mimosifolia - Jacaranda Tree

Just magnificent - thanks Delonix I don't get to see many of these beauties this size up here. It was a real treat when I lived in Brisbane to walk around the neighbourhood and see these huge trees - they were planted everywhere.

They are planted everywhere here also. My Jaranada in the front yard is this size...it is difficult to take photos of though because I'm on a hill. However, I will take some soon and all the flowers covering the walk way to the house. LOL! The tree is definitely worth the carpet of flowers on the grass, street, sidewalk etc.

There's literally millions of these trees in San Diego, CA. San Diego is a city of blue/purple now.

You're right we are plenty of Jacarandás here, love them. Some streets get covered by them changing the spring sky and ground to purple color.
Purple Ipês and Jacarandás dispute for room in the city.

Yes, the same thing happens here. I know about it first hand...with a carpet of flowers covering my front yard the sidewalk and street from the large tree in my front yard. Some trees are just worth the mess. : > )

It's stunning Andy. Absolutely lovely. Maybe my little tree will bloom in its pot just once for me.....of course, I'll have to wait 20 years for that to happen I'm sure. LOL

Jacarandas typically bloom within 3 years from seed...from what I've read. I think I lied when I said they don't flower in pots...because I've seen them here blooming in 15 gallon pots for sale and large planters. I hope you can get yours to bloom in a couple of year.

There's a possibility. They prefer full hot sun to bloom...that's the secret. As an indoor plant it would never receive enough sun to bloom. I sugguest putting the plants outdoors in the summer...the chances it will bloom should increase. (they have to be put into full sun gradually as a house plant though).

I had planned on putting it outside as soon as the weather warms up. We do get very hot sun here in the summer.

I fell in love with the Jacaranda when in Spain. It became a quest to find a nursery here in Cornwall to supply. I did find one but didn't get around to buying one. "Just as well" we had the coldest winter for twenty years, definately wouldn't have survived. We even lost plants in the glasshouse. But, I think they are beautiful.

Yes, these trees are an extremely popular tree here. They are a very tender tree when young, however, develop hardiness with age...being able to tolerate temps breifly down to 28 - 25 degrees F / -2 to -3.8 degrees with minimal damage.

Maybe worth a try with some TLC then Delonix, but it depends on which of us reaches this great age first, me or the tree !! lol.

Jacaranda trees are very quick growing trees...at least 3 feet/ 1 meter a year when young if watered and fertilized well. When these trees are very young they will usually be severely damaged or even killed in freezing temps, however, with TLC they would do well. Where I live freezing temps are unknown...I will maybe have 1 or 2 mornings in winter of around 42 degrees F/ 5.5 degrees C., however, the day temps are usually in the 70's / 23 degrees C. or sometimes much higher up to 90 degrees F/ 32 degrees C.
