Wow, quick shot. Nice job! Haven't seen any of these around here, do have lots of southern Skinks with the blue tail. Do you have those also?

He's a neat looking guy!

it looks big?
18 May, 2009
Great shot, just how large is it?
18 May, 2009
Thanks guys. They can get up to about 7 1/2 inches long. This fella was about 6 inches long. He looks alot bigger than that, doesn't he...lol.
Yes Wohlibuli, we have the five striped, blue tailed skinks running around everywhere. They keep my cat Buffy very busy....lol

LOL... Sometimes I think the little beggers will taunt pets. Bella will see one and start to chase after it... she gets about three steps and then gives up. She tends to forget how old she is!

Bless her heart Wohlibuli, you just can't take the curiosity out of the cat, regardless their age....lol. I'm sure Buffy will be chasing after something with her last breath....:-)

Learned more than I ever wanted to know about the Eastern Five Striped Skinks this semester as my daughter had a paper on them for a Vertebrates class, and I am her proofreader and editor.(unpaid, of course) : )

LOL....., the things we do for our kids ....;-). Hope they will at least remember a handful out of the million or so things we willingly did for them. I'm personally, not going to hold my breath....lol

Like the pic........lizards are very primitive creatures and it reminds me of the past way way back to the dinosaurs......t- rex will have you for his tea.

Thanks Pansypotter and Lindak, and I agree wholeheartedly, that they look like their prehistoric ancestors....:-)

Luckily that's one thing I don't have to worry about here, we are alittle too cold for them to survive our winters here, thank goodness !

pays to live in the North aye Flcrazy? do they have gators in S. Carolina?
the little liz is cute...but gators? ....one animal I don't have much affinity for....give me the heebee jeebee's...lol.

I do believe gators live year round in the southern part of South Carolina, I will have to ask Wohlibuli. So glad I live in North Carolina....:-)
23 Jun, 2009
Lots of gators in S. Carolina and Georgia and Florida. They won't bother you if you don't bother them. We use to have a six footer that lived in the drainage pond at the shopping center where I worked in Fl. We called him old Sam. : )
24 Jun, 2009
Wow.., it's hard to believe you can just turn a corner somewhere and suddenly there is an alligator staring you in the eye...Yikes....! I guess after a while you just get used to seeing them around. Thanks for answering our question Wohlibuli.
25 Jun, 2009
Yes thanks Wohlibuli! What did old Sam eat, btw? the odd goat or dog? as I said ...heebee jeebee's LOL!
25 Jun, 2009
Oh, just the usual rats, birds, frogs and the occasional poodle! Just kidding! I think they mostly eat small rodents and fish.
Yes, you do just get used to them being there. Because the water table is so high in Fl and most of Ga, you are required to build a drainage area when you build a large shopping center, and this is usually a small open pond. Lots of small gators find their way to these ponds, because they are safe from predators. Once they grow up the pond is then too small and most move on but Old Sam was just lazy, I think.

That really is interesting Wohlibuli, never get tired of hearing stories about other peoples lives. What seems so normal to one individual, can be very fasinating to someone else !
25 Jun, 2009
Right you are Flcrazy. : )
25 Jun, 2009
Just as long as Old Sam sticks to his rodents and birds and frogs......
