We seem to get a few yellow ones in Norfolk. I had some aphids on the flower buds of one of my rose bushes called Blue Moon, I put on some cotton garden gloves, and gently squished them off then hosed the bush down.

Iv Blue Moon 2 Norfolk i like the Green Friendly way u shift your Greenfly :) i just Nip them between My Fingers leaving their Bodys on the Plant/Flower as its z it stops reinfestation Norfolk cos the smell puts them off?? How true this is i dont know? :)

What are you doing to fight the dreaded blackspot? I have a spray, but I haven't been able to use it due to the weather, it has to be done when it's not raining and not windy and not when insects are around. Ah me.

Iv Picked off the leafs & i sprayed them when the weather was Dry & Warm Spritz but theyl need it again soon & im like u got to wait :/

Funkyfuschia right Jacque if you count the spots on this side you ll see 7 then double for other side = 14 .
Apparently very keen on nettles so hope to see some here ! According to my book over 40 different types of ladybird in UK .
Oh re your aphids try a weak solution of washing up liquid in you sprayer as this breaks down their sticky saliva and they cant hold on and slide off .

Are many of them yellow, BB??
19 May, 2009
No Spritz but they range from no spots to multi spots then the same with white spots, if you search ladybirds think you ll be amazed at the different varieties .

Thats amazing Jane/Ray :)

I've only seen one in the garden this year so far. I really hope they come back!!

Love your gentle caring for the greenfly Jacque. Bet that other assassin, Milky taught you that one. Once you get addicted, like her you will be squishing everything in site. I'm surprised that Ray has lasted so long; or has he. We haven't seen him lately and Milky has gone very quiet.

There are some non-predatory ladybirds, like the yellow and black 22-spot ladybird (Psyllobora vigintiduopunctata), which eat the mildews and other microscopic fungi that grow on plant tissues and may help reduce the chance of certain fungal diseases in plants.
I only know this because I had some in my garden last year and wanted to know what they were, so my son googled it. LOL. Made me look a bit intelligent there for a while. I can only hope!!!!

The 14 spot ladybird is the nearest i can find to your picture, one of three woodland ladybird's found mostly in the midlands.
