Oil seed rape is everywhere Janey , some people are really suffering with hay fever etc ..
We have a farmer who grows Woad near us , he uses it to dye good quality Towels amongst other things , it,s a beautiful blue , it supplements the farm income , they sell a lot at county shows , I,m not sure how well it keeps the colour when it,s washed it,s very expensive as well .......

Haven't heard of Woad before....I bet it's a picture to see.....:o) The first time we saw blue fields was in Normandy, they were amazing....a few years ago now though,..........ooh..hope you enjoy your holiday, are you taking your caravan....?

Lovely photo. Would like to see more like this.
Er...Janey. Woad is what the ancient Britons painted their skin blue with when they went up against the Roman invasion in 67AD.
It's quite an interesting plant too.

A lovely field. I love that it's blue. I think its wonderful that farm growing woad for natural die. What an interesting living craft! And great history. I haven't dyed with anything I've grown before, but would love to. :-)
