Bloodgood Acer

This is the first year it has developed these fun little helicopter like seeds...I love it..when the light hits it just right they look like brighter red ornaments hanging off each leaf..

It gets even more brilliant red in the fall..interested to see what the little seeds do...seems they are coming off all ready...I loved catching the ones off our giant maples as a child...spent time playing with them and tossing them in the wind..they were much large helicopter wings than these.

Yup - just sow the whole thing. I leave a couple of pots of them out each winter as they need the cold to break their dormancy - a cold frame is best so the rain doesnt wash them away. Then they start appearing in late spring. They are prone to slugs, so I bring them out of harms way before they start growing......and that'a about it I think..... They're not ready yet tho - collect them early autumn as the leaves begin to turn.

Yes..if I lay in my hammock at a certain time of the day..I can see the light shinging through it and it reminds me of stained glass..very relaxing to see in a lite breeze..very enjoyable.
