Peacock butterfly

Thought I'd post this for Di's benefit! Believe it or not, this guy arrived at my house on the back of a lorry (!) attached to a new fence panel yesterday. It was early morning and still quite cold, so he was dormant at first. I found a bit of cardboard and encouraged him to walk onto it. I then put him in the sunshine, where he opened up his wings to warm up. When he was warm enough, he took flight, did a few circuits of my garden and then was gone. Hope he found a place to sleep for the rest of the winter.

Oh he's wonderful Sid !! Thanks so much for posting him. I don't get these Peacocks here......in Florida they have White Peacocks but this reminds me of our Buckeyes, which I don't get here either. Very nice pic !

I'm glad you like him - Peacocks are a fairly common garden variety here and one of our biggest butterflys. :-)
