I don,t know why I didn,t recognise this Gee , it was the close up of the hairs and you saying it was ugly that put me off ...LOL ..

I,ve never seen one that tall before .. what are you feeding it on ..unless they have grown up there so that the trio can,t reach them .. LOL ..

You could be right about the tortoises, Amy, the plant has been in my garden for about 8 years but has disappeared from one side and come up in the middle - it's obviously trying to run away from the trio :)
The tallest stem is about three and a half foot tall. When it stops raining I'll go and see if I like it any better.
