Yep I agree TT and Irish. The water was very very green - there is probably an accumulation of 2,000 years worth of algae in there !!

The Romans used lead pipes and aqueducts, cisterns etc. water can be moved uphill with hydraulic rams...no pumps and it was probably circulated in this pool the same way...would be fascinating to see what's underneath it.

You can actually see their heating and drainage systems in the ruins Lori - clear evidence of their engineering excellence. There was even a loo (not that different from our modern ones !!!) that apparently had flushing water .... fascinating place. I've been several times and find something new each time - -

It would be a place that is impossible to see in one day's visit... I understand why you would go back again and again... it is said too that perhaps their use of lead pipe hastened their demise....apparently the flushing loos in Crete ante date the Romans...one sign of civilisation is how the ancients chose to handle (or not) their own wastes...lol.

Yes Lori, I'd heard that too about the lead piping - in fact, lots of the houses/flats over here have had to change their plumbing because of the old lead pipes
