This is the side of our garage. When we moved into our house, this border was twice as deep as this and was filled with some sort of dense shrub that covered the whole wall of the garage and we didn't even know there was a window in the garage! My parents hacked it down for us, my dad laid another line of paving slabs to tidy the area up (which you can see in the photo), and made me a rockery in the space that was left, although I have planted it up myself. The ivy was planted about five years ago and is almost at the roofline level now, doing a good job of covering up the rather unattractive brickwork.

Your rockery is very pretty.
Must admit I'm not a fan of ivy, but I guess it is okay if you keep it in check.
My neighbour's ivy invades and dominates my less sturdy plants...

Hi Terratoonie, yes I must admit I do have to keep trimming it to keep it flat and not too deep, also it creeps under the guttering and I have to keep that in check too. But the brickwork on the garage was not at all attractive, and as we can see it from the house I wanted something that would quickly cover it. But we do pay the price for speed!

Oh I do like this border - just love the planting. Love the ivy as well - have some myself that needs a bit of trimming, but I still think it looks great.
