Thanks TT and Jacque. I agree as so many have disappeared as they are treated as weeds by farmers and it is mostly in areas which are not cultivated that you get them now.

I believe it is Milky as the last time that I went to Hampton Court there was an Essex stall and the young lady attendant told me this and gave me a free packet of poppy seeds.

That's intriguing, Toto - does every county have an offical flower, I wonder.

I've just followed that link, Jacque, and Kent has the hop! I'm not very impressed with that :(

I think its because they are often draped around pubs and they look dull and dusty! I would choose something like Verbena bori...(whatever), or primroses, or one of the lovely hardy geraniums :)

I knew about Lily of the Valley, Jacque but not the others. Nut-bearing trees sounds appropriate :)

Gentianella germanica for Bucks - very pretty. Would like it in my garden.

11 Jun, 2009

So would I Wagger, that is if I could pronounce it.

11 Jun, 2009

How about Chiltern Gentian, Toto? Do you notice over the years how the same plant is pronounced six different ways by six different professional gardeners?

12 Jun, 2009

Thanks Wagger. I was having trouble, but now I've put my teeth in, will probably manage "Chiltern Gentian".
