Peony

Peony

This peony is the first one to open. It's grown taller than the support and had to be staked with a cane. I've no idea which one it is but it's the biggest flower I've had with this plant - thought I'd better get it before any rain did away with it!

A beautiful flower, and a beautiful colour. Well done. Do you find peonies easy to grow? I've tried several times in my garden, but I only seen to be able to keep them for the one year.

Hi Silverbelle - thanks for your nice comment. This plant was moved from the back garden and has been ok although I have another one that puts on loads of healthy leaves but doesn't flower. I read somewhere that they've not to be planted too deeply so maybe this is the problem - I'll replant it, give it another chance and see what happens.

Hello Pansypotter - thanks. That's a pity - one bud - I can't help you with a solution on that one - mine flowered despite me!

Hi Keithsmum, do you keep this one in the sun or the shade? I'm thinking of giving it another try, and want to get it right this time.

Hi Silverbelle, It's not in the shade as such. It's in the front garden and that doesn't get the sun till the afternoon and right through till it disappears. It's in an open position though and there's nothing dense round about it. Not planting it too deep is another thing to think about. I've got a white one at the back that needs repositioning I think - loads of leaves but no flowers! Good luck with it. Oh, and welcome to the forum too - I'm a newbie as well and I love it!!

I've never since such a tall Peony! Beautiful colour.

Hi Tink, it surprised me this year too. The head of it was huge but unfortunately the weight of it pulled it over a bit then the rain came down so it wasn't very long lasting.

I love your color scheme, really brightens up a cloudy day.

Thank you. Unfortunately it doesn't look like that now. I must have too much colour concentrated on early summer! I was pretty brutal with the secateurs at the weekend but it's given me more planting space. It also hasn't stopped raining for days. Saturday was a one off!

Simply divine. Do you have the name of this peony?

Hello Juliebelle - Thanks for your nice comments but I'm afraid I have no idea what the name of this peony is. I've had it for years and years. Last year was the best I've seen it - somehow I get the feeling it might not be so good this year as it may have given it's all already! I've been quite neglectful of this forum recently - just other things getting in the way - but now that the better weather is hopefully arriving I'll be here more and outside doing stuff as well. I'm really a fairweather gardener but that should change soon. Nice to hear from you.
