This is a male Eastern Box turtle in my back yard. I always see a few in my yard each year and I also help them across the road so they don't get run over. If you ever move a turtle off the road make sure you move him in the direction he was traveling because he will only turn around and go back. They have a map in their memory of where certain things are at certain times of the year (like berries, water) and they know where they're going. Males have red eyes like the one pictured and females have more yellow eyes.

What marvellous colours on this turtle. Not just an instance of camera "red eye" then? What fantastic garden wildlife you have. Your knowledge and care for it all is awesome!

I'll look like this turtle when I get up at 5.30am to go to work if I don't logout soon and go to bed (11.45pm now). But, GOY is so addictive! Just one more look and click, though, lol!
